Born in Hamburg-Finkenwerder on 25th December.
1924
Self-taught beginnings as a painter.
1925
Receives a grant for a study trip to Italy.
1926
Travels to France. First exhibition at the Graphisches Kabinett Maria Kunde, Hamburg.
1929
First acquisition of Bargheer’s work by the Kunsthalle in Hamburg.
1930
Travels to Holland and Belgium.
1932-33
Receives a grant from the City of Hamburg. Meets the art historian Ludwig Heinrich Heydenreich.
1935
Travels to England in the spring; first ever visit to the island of Ischia in the autumn.
1938
Stays at S. Angelo d’Ischia where he makes friends with Werner Gilles. Visits Paul Klee in Berne; Klee had studied music under a great uncle of Bargheer’s.
1939
Moves to Forio d’Ischia. Friendship with Rudolf Levy.
1942-44
Military service.
1945
Period of stay in Florence. Friendship with Bernhard Berenson.
1946
First illustrations for the book "Le Avventure di Pinocchio" by Carlo Collodi.
1948
Made an honorary citizen of Forio d’Ischia.
1950
Back in Germany for the first time since 1940; from now on Bargheer lives alternately in Hamburg-Blankenese and Forio d’Ischia.
1954
Friendship with Werner Heldt.
1956
First mosaic commission: Hamburg-Eilbek.
1957
Guest lecturer at the University of Fine Arts, Hamburg.
1958
Professorship at the Accademia Tiberina giĂ Pontificia in Rome.
1960
Travels to Tunis.
1961
Travels to Spain and Morocco. Mosaic for the Lichtwarkhaus, Hamburg-Bergedorf.
1962
Travels to Egypt.
1962-63
Mosaic for the outside wall of the Lower Saxony Stadium in Hanover.
1963-65
Professorship at the Berlin University of the Arts.

Intarsia for the Board Room of the Unilever Building in Hamburg.

Travels to Central Africa (Mali and Senegal).

Travels to Senegal.
1968
Building of what is today known as the Bargheer House in Forio.

The Eduard Bargheer Foundation for the Support of Young Artists is set up to mark the occasion of Bargheer’s 75th birthday.
1979
Eduard Bargheer dies at his home in Blankenese on 1st July.
